Te Whāriki, New Zealand's Early Childhood Curriculum, is the foundation of everything we do at KCC. Te Whāriki is delivered meaningfully, peacefully, and with love. Our kaiako value every moment as an opportunity for learning, and through the freedom of play, each child is supported to thrive on their unique learning journey.

This is supported through our play-based, emergent curriculum, where kaiako work closely with families to create a consistent partnership between home and KCC.

Our curriculum is woven through the five strands of Te Whāriki, supporting children to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need for lifelong learning:

• Wellbeing | Mana Atua – Building confidence, independence, resilience, emotional wellbeing, and self-help skills.
• Belonging | Mana Whenua – Fostering a sense of belonging, strong relationships, respect for others, and connection to our community and environment.
• Contribution | Mana Tangata – Encouraging kindness, cooperation, inclusion, fairness, and the confidence to contribute to group experiences.
• Communication | Mana Reo – Supporting language, early literacy, creativity, storytelling, music, art, and meaningful self-expression.
• Exploration | Mana Aotūroa – Inspiring curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, discovery, early mathematical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning through hands-on experiences.

As children grow, our curriculum naturally supports the development of school readiness skills, including confidence, independence, communication, social competence, and early literacy and numeracy, ensuring they are well prepared for their transition to school.

To celebrate each child's achievements and milestones, we document their learning through Storypark, our online learning portfolio, allowing families to follow and celebrate their child's learning journey with us.
